Dilema

Here it is:

Our son's name is Elijah (first) Truett (middle). No, Truett is not a family name, we just like it. :) We thought we were being original with Elijah, because we had done our research. However, in the last couple of weeks, I have heard of two other Eli's being born in our church. And I'm irritated. If I love the name, why wouldn't I think others would also? But I so wanted him to have his own name. I love my name, but let's face it, there are about a million of us. I was never the only "Lindsay" in my class. In fact, I'm still never the only Lindsay wherever I am. I'm retarded, I know. But really. Am I just being ridiculous?

We love the name Truett. Is it too late at three months old to begin calling him Truett? And then we have the issue of him going by his middle name. Would that be too annoying for him? Let's pretend he's in his first day of school and it's roll call: "Elijah Gosnell?" "That's me. I go by Truett." Sheesh. Poor little guy. His life's already hard and he doesn't even know it.

Here's the stats on both names:

TRUETT

#2658 on BabyCenter

Gender: Boy
Origin: Norse
Meaning: Truth

ELIJAH

#44 on BabyCenter

Gender: Boy
Origin: Hebrew
Meaning: Lord is my God

Give me your honest opinion. What do you think? I would really appreciate it!

The name Elijah...

My View from the Front Door

I apparently have an interesting neighborhood. In discussing this picture with my mom this morning, we began talking about the rest of my neighbors. This photo you see is directly across the street. Greg, is his name. He came over shortly after we moved in to introduce himself, although we had already heard about him from other neighbors, Tim, Tom, and Jim. Greg proceeded to tell us that he drives for the YMCA, and that he does "pretty well for a multiple personality schizophrenic." Great Greg, thanks. I can't say I would let Eli on that bus EVER. What you can't see in this photo is the second school bus that is in his driveway - that's his "extra" one in case one of the other 6 breaks down. Looks like one of them is being repaired as we speak!

Next to Greg is Occi, our 82 year old widow who has alzheimers. I see her out daily when Eli and I are strolling, but I guess she doesn't remember. Because when I was outside taking this shot, she gave me a good drilling about what I was doing taking photos of her neighborhood. I reminded her that I live across the street and she said, "Yeah, I used to know the people who lived there, but I don't know the new ones." Her daughter and grandson stay with her. Though I'm not sure that the grandson makes for a good nurse unless marijuana has been legalized by the FDA as a drug of choice. Hm.....

Then there's Eva behind us. She's been our hot tamale source as of late. She is our super resourceful 87 year old divorcee. Apparently, as she has told us many times, she "will share anything with anyone except her husband!" When he began messing around, she kicked him to the curb. "You can do anything you want to when you put your mind to it. I raised my two kids all by myself and bought a house. You don't need no man to get things done." She writes faith-based poems and gives them to everyone on the street. I hope to have one soon so that I can add it. LOL. We love her.

Don't even get me started on Miss Carolyn. Her yard art is frightening, even when it's not Halloween!

Anyone want to come over??

Bath time!

Eli loves bath time now. He hated it at first. Now, though, he has learned to control his arms and legs in order to best splash mommy (and daddy if he's around).

Duck Duck Goose

We went to the first time mom's event last night at the Duck Duck Goose consignment sale. First, I get made fun of because I don't particularly like baby toys and paraphanalia. It doesn't go with my decor. :) Brent says Eli's going to be the only child who's mom doesn't let him play with toys. Sadly enough, it's true! Poor Eli...

Anyways, I also don't like to shop, per say. I like it only when I know exactly what I'm going for and there aren't a million people there. This wasn't the case last night. We went without a plan. And all of Knoxville was there. Brent said, "I just ran into about 30 pregnant bellies!" We had never seen so many pregnant women and babies in one place. It was ridiculous. Even if I had found something I wanted for him, I wouldn't have waited in line for two hours to pay for a $5.00 Tennessee jacket! We wished we would have had our video camera to document the event. We left empty-handed after about 20 minutes. But it has created a lasty memory. Brent, you're a good sport!

Judger

So my mom and I are sitting in the parking lot at Target eating a Wendy's kids meal (burger, fries, frosty) when I suddenly blurt out, "I wish America wasn't so obese!" Who am I to say that while I'm chowing down on my fried meal. It only took me a second to realize how stupid I sounded and we laughed for close to ten minutes at ourselves. I definitely can't take myself too seriously...

Postpartum Depression

Turns out I have it. It's awful. So I go back to the OB in the morning for my follow up visit to make sure that I don't have any more crazy thoughts. :) Praise the Lord for His faithfulness in bringing us through this thus far.

Here's what I think is funny: we had a natural delivery - no drugs, no nothing. Just the good old-fashioned birthing. I am usually opposed to taking any kind of synthetic drug (if you know me, you know we use herbs instead). Now, I'm on the zoloft band wagon (which I hope to replace soon with natural antidepressants). Isn't it ironic that I was so prepared for a natural delivery without the use of drugs and now I am dependant on a drug to get through my days?! Oh, how the Lord is working on my pride!

The Trip to the Dentist

So I had to go to the dentist this morning and I couldn't find a babysitter, so Eli came along. He was ok for a little while, but he eventually got bored in his car seat and started fussing. I tried rocking him with one hand with my mouth wide open, but he kept spitting his pacifier out. So I asked if the receptionist, Theresa, would mind watching him. How terrible is that?! I go to the dentist and have to have someone watch him! She rocked him until he fell asleep, which was wonderful. But then he woke himself up when he started pooping....go figure! Anyway, all is well and my teeth are clean.

Bob comes back into town today! I pick her up at 3:30. She'll be here for a week while I work on continuing to heal. Can't wait to see her. :)
